Elton was sitting out in front of his house, nestled in the woods north of Cerulean. It was a pagoda, naturally, rising slightly over the treetops with its wide roof. The outdoor kitchen that rested under a small pavilion was already cooking some beef as the Chief rested on a stump. Tonight was going to be fun.
Next to his house was a small clearing that he'd created with help from his Pokemon. It was the size of a regulation battle ring, and would be perfect for a little battle, like the one later tonight. Lecce would be here soon, and from there they'd have a bite to eat before he'd have their practice match. He'd borrowed a Scraggy for the event, as his own team would make the battle a little onesided

Dressed in his casual clothes, Lecce made his way through the forest. He felt the eyes of a wild Pokemon as he walked passed its hiding spot, and tried to feel relaxed. This was the break he'd been wanting ever since he was a young trainer, all he had to do was prove himself to a person that has truly earned their right to sit at the top, in a battle.
By the time he could see the Pagoda clearly ahead of him down the path, he reminded himself again that this was still a dinner; he was just freaking himself out by over thinking the battle portion of the night. Swallowing to clear the lump in his throat, Lecce raised a hand and smiled weakly in greeting once he came into view.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Sir."

Elton stood, brushing his blue training robe a little as he approached Lecce, guiding him out towards the dining area. He gave a big smile and shook his head when he appologized, adding
"Ahh, but you are right on time, which is the most important thing. You're off the clock, Lecce, you can go ahead and call me Elton if you wish"
The dining area was a single square oak table with a chair on each side. Elton pulled out a chair for his visitor as he went back to make sure the meat was cooking properly. For once he didn't have any of his own Pokemon out, except for the Scraggy which was standing by the grill, playing with its extra flap of flabby
"So, Lecce, tell me a bit more about you and your team. And how do you like your steak?"

"...Alright, sir."
Lecce took the chair politely, the new pokemon catching his eye. He was still going over the information on the recently connected region's new species, but didn't give the Scraggy much thought for now.
"Medium rare is best. ...I'm not sure what you want to know that my file doesn't say, but here goes... I Grew up in Viridian, and wanted to be a policeman since I was a kid. I wanted to protect people and pokemon from Team Rocket. "My team right now is Mightyena, Roserade, and Nidoking. I've known them the longest of my pokemon, and taught them techniques that help me out in the field. I also have a few bug types, but they stay at home in Viridian most of the time."

Elton gave a nod, his white hair bouncing slightly as he brought a plate over to Lecce of four strips of steak over rice. A side of spring peas and a water was supplied as well as Elton went back to cooking his own meal, which he liked a little darker
"Your will to protect people is one of the reasons I like you, Lecce. You're sure in your beliefs and are willing to stand up behind what you believe in. You also obviouslly love your Pokemon, or atleast value them, which is just as important. It's a matter of trust between you and your commerads"
Elton sat across from him with his own plate of steak-over-rice, chosing to eat his with chopsticks, though he did supply his guest with the option of using a fork. After pouring himself another glass of water, he added
"The events that transpire tonight are for you and you alone. This location is not well known, and I'd rather it stay that way. Do you understand?"

Lecce thanked the other, picking up his fork. The food looked and smelled delicious; perhaps this was nothing to worry about after all, if he were being treated so politely. It felt odd to be praised for something so natural, though. Most of the officers he knew worked for similar reasons, or at least seemed to.
He looked up from his meal at the words, raising an eyebrow at the secrecy. But, he supposed Elton had his reasons, and it was his home.... "I understand. I'll keep it quiet."

"Glad to hear. When you're ready, we will begin in the ring"
Elton ate slowly, delicatly as the meat and rice slowly disappeared. Scraggy stood next to him and started to lean in uncomfortably close until Elton gave it a piece of beef. Then it seemed genuinly pleased for a while
"Do you travel much, Lecce? Atleast to the other regions? I know we have a set jurisdiction, but do you ever travel for fun?"

"I'm ready whenever... so after dinner is fine with me." Lecce ate quickly, but tried to slow down out of respect for his host. Everything tasted better than it looked, which surprised him.
He gave a small smile at the question. "Not really. Usually on my off days I go home to Viridian and check on my bugs to make sure they're doing alright. I do take a lot of the missions that send me all over Kanto, though, and I've been to Sinnoh, once." He gave a slight shudder. Not because of the experience itself; on the contrary, he'd found the region lovely and even caught a few troublesome bug-types to aide his team. No, he shuddered at a very distinct part of the trip. "Never again. The boat ride made me ill," he explained.
He set the dish for the spring peas back to the table, now empty. "...I think when I do travel out of region again, I'll just take the train to Johto instead."

Elton stood, taking the dish and giving a smile as he thought of his own travels. Most of the time he'd either gone on foot or rode Wailord to wherever he was going. Though, that's not usually the most inconspicious method of travel. Then again, he always felt bad if it got cooped up because of its size.
"Johto has a fair number of bugs, that is true. However, if you do have the time, Unova has a whole new interesting breed of them as well. My favorite is the illusive Joltik. It's only two inches tall, but it packs an electric wallop that has to be seen to believe. It also has a knack for scaring other Pokemon into not eating"
Elton smiled at the idea before quickly cleaning the dishes and motioning for the battle arena, Scraggy following him. The Chief moved to the far end, Scraggy standing before him
"It's a Dark/Fighting type, so choose your Pokemon accordingly. This is going to be a 1 on 1, no items. Whenever you're ready, step into the ring"

"Two inches? That must be the smallest Pokemon to date." Lecce was leaned forward in interest. He'd never seen one, but he had heard of the popular little bug-type. "Hmm... Don't they live in caves? I'd need to see its habitat before capturing one, no need to stress it out by transfering it to a forest zone..."
When he saw Elton move towards the battle area, he stood as well, though pausing to consider this information. After a small nod to himself, he took a pokeball from his waist, going to the near side of the arena. There wasn't a better choice on his team. He tapped the pokeball to release, and soon had the large pokemon at his side. Lecce couldn't help smiling just a bit; he rarely got to train with the Nidoking because of his size, only able to release him in emergencies or in the more isolated areas. "Elton, Sir. I choose, Nero."

"Yes, they are the smallest Pokemon recorded. When they evolve, they grow to a little over 2 feet, I believe"
Elton caught the smirk and gave a point towards the trees behind them. There was the sounds of waves in the background, signaling they were by water. After that was the loud cry of a Wailord, then a spout of water piercing over the trees
"I know how you feels sometimes. Not exactly convenient, eh?"

[Nidoking - Lvl: 25 HP: 162/162 Atk: 92 Def: 77 SpAtk: 85 SpDef: 75 Spd: 85]
Lecce shook his head at the question. "It's price of evolution and power, it seems." That was one reason he liked Bug types: you could take them just about anywhere without having problems. (though he did know someone with allergies to the spores some of the species made in their wings) He looked across the field, firming his expression. "Alright... shall be begin?"
Nero gave a small roar in greeting as it was released, and gave a relaxing stretch when it wasn't instantly attacked. Looking around, getting a feel for the atmosphere. He spotted the much smaller pokemon across the field, one it was unfamiliar with. Having no order given just yet, it leaned down on its fore arms to get a better look at the Scaggy, ears perked in curiosity and thick tail swishing back and forth behind it.

The Scraggy pulled its flap of skin up to its neck before letting go, having the flap hang for a moment before falling back to its pants like position. Elton smiled at his little buddy, who was probably 'Derpy' in nature. Either way, it was in fact time, so here we go!
"I think it's time we began. Scraggy, start off with a bite!"
The Scraggy began to run forward, arms flapping behind it as it jumped and tried to bite onto Nidoking's arm. There was a serious size difference between the two, so Scraggy probably appeared more as a nusiance than a threat

Nero gave a growl at the bite, standing at its full height and swinging its arm in an attempt to fling the Scraggy off, hackles rising.
Lecce kept his expression serious. While this was a battle, he did have to watch that Nero didn't get carried away. "Ner', take advantage of its position; hit it with Strength!"
Nero's body tensed as a steam-like aura surrounded it for a moment, holding its arm steady and bringing the other down to try and smash the smaller pokemon on the head.

The Scraggy took surprisingly high damage, getting whipped about and then deposited on the ground. It looked a little flustered as it tried to brush itself off, but the damage was done. It took a few steps forward as Elton yelled to it to do a Hi Jump Kick, knowing that such a hit could bring this battle to an early close one way or another.
The Scraggy nodded and ran, jumping before making the Dynamic Entry! pose, baggy feet out as it aimed for Nidoking's head. If it hit, it would do some serious damage. If it missed, the resulting recoil would probably seal his fate.

(Since it's 90% accuracy I just flipped a coin best 2/3 to see if it hit or not. ._.)
[Nidoking - Lvl: 25 HP: 37/162 Atk: 92 Def: 77 SpAtk: 85 SpDef: 75 Spd: 85]
Nero took several steps back, reeling from the hit until it fell to one knee, eyes spinning. Lecce winced, taking a step forward unconsciously. "Come on, Ner', we're not beat yet! Show him an Iron Tail!"
The Nidoking shook its head to clear it, and in a practiced move spun as it got to its feet, tail glowing as it whipped out towards the target. There was a good chance of it missing because the Scraggy was so small, but the risk of being put in a bad position, back turned to the enemy, was worth the potential damage and quick KO that they could obtain before Nero could get any more injured.

The Scraggy was unable to dodge the attack, not turning fast enough to evade the tail. It took the attack with full force, falling back and towards Elton. The Chief was quick to return it to its Pokeball, whipping it out before it could hit the ground. He didn't want any extra damage. Though he did look a little bit sad about losing, he quickly shook it off with a big grin, nodding as he drew out a second Pokeball
"You did a great job, Lecce. You were able to adapt to an opponent you'd never faced before. The night is still young, however, and these bones are restless. Care to go another round?"
He tossed out the Great Ball and from it emerged a Dugtrio, bounding in the ground as Elton awaited the responce. He did add
"If you want to use Nidoking again, go ahead and heal. I'll allow it"

Lecce stopped mid-stride towards his pokemon when the new opponent appeared. Nero would keep fighting without letting himself rest if he caught too well a glimpse, he knew he had to switch. Quickly he sent the light from the blue-painted ball to retrieve him, and plucked another from his waist.
"Rest a bit, Ner', you earned it..." He smiled fainly to Elton. "Thank you for the offer, but I think it's time for Seth to make an appearance."
With a tap to the second ball, soon a young Roserade appeared on the field, its arms crossed, though lowered to its waist as if clasping its hands together.

Elton nodded and called out for the Dugtrio to dig underground, which it did with ease. Part of the plan was to use the speed and terrain advantage it had over its opponent, though he knew that he'd have to take each hit carefully. He didn't have a lot of HP to spare
"Do you name all your Pokemon? Just out of curiosity"

Lecce kept his cool when he saw the move, thinking as long as he didn't take risks with this one that it should turn out in his favor.
"...I do, mostly. I tend to find wild pokemon in my garden at home and playing with mine; hard to tell them apart when I don't see them for weeks." He laughed as he recalled one year when a brood of Weedle hatched there while he was away. It'd become a game with his mischievous Wilt to hide among its siblings. "I think it also helps with new allies, having a name instead of a species to call for."
He turned his gaze to Roserade, who was looking at the surrounding ground warily now. Lecce had heard that some grass-types could feel vibrations in the ground, and wondered lightly if Seth was feeling Dugtrio moving about below them. "Seth, give it your best shot with a Magical Leaf attack!"
Seth glanced at him and nodded, bringing one of its bouquets up as it glowed a moment, before shooting the shimmering leaves-shaped energy towards a spot on, or rather under, the ground. Lecce didn't know if the attack would make it through several feet of earth, but it was their best chance until Dugtrio resurfaced.
