Dan jumped off of his Salamance, returning it to its Pokeball as he turned to face the Power Plant. It was night-time, and the place had been locked up for the evening. It was still running, however, and that was the important part. In his pocket was the coal from Chargestone Cave, ready and waiting for the evening's festivities. Tonight, he'd be making diamonds.
Calling Scizor out of its Great Ball, he instructed it to break the lock on the door, which it was able to do without problem. Electrive could have done it just as easily, but he'd have another job later. Besides, the amount of electricity in the air would probably overpower his evil brain. Pushing the door in, Crimson stayed close to Dan as he looked up on the Generator. It was ready and waiting, powering the Magnet Train.
"Stand watch by the door. I have to make sure everything can run properly before we begin" "Scizor~"

A massive shadow passed overhead, a Salamence beginning to circle and lower a safe distance away from the plant generators, enough away to no longer hear the turbines hum away with energy. The nearby grasses and waterway rippled with each wing beat, less and less often needed as it lowered to land.
Jumping from its back and landing much closer was Ann Kale, arm around Ampharos, freshly released just before the leap. Quickly the two were on their feet, the pokemon coming forward and preparing to advance on Crimson if need be.
Ann had picked up a hit over her radio, saying that a silent alarm had recently gone off; being in the air already with Gio, on a return trip after a day of training, she had come to check it out. Now, she was almost sorry she had responded, now facing Dan with a mild expression.
"Dan.... What do you think you're doing now?" She didn't mean to sound curt, but it was late, and a potential battle with a friend was not what she wanted to top the night off with. She didn't know what was going to happen if another officer showed up.

Dan was standing by the generator with a screwdriver in hand and headphones on, working diligantly on the underside of the device when the officer arrived. He looked to see who it was before deciding how to react; if it happened to be someone below his level, he would have brushed it off. If it were, Elton, he'd probably have poo'ed his pants. Thankfully (maybe) it was Ann. He smiled and called out (a little too loudly, headphones still on)
"Science!"
He hopped down, taking off his headphones as Scizor joined his side, ready to fight if need-be as its trainer pointed to the black box he'd attached to the largest supplier of electricity to the region
"I needed a large source of energy for an experiment that I couldn't do at the Base. See, I was going to try and make a diamond out of some special coal I obtained from Unova, but nothing at the base could supply enough power to charge the pressurizer to the epicly high level I needed to make a diamond. When I turn it on, one of two things will happen, atleast from my experiements: it'll either work or cause a blackout"
He'd have to go up to the platform to activate it, which Ann was in his way to getting to, Dan made a motion for her to step aside. Neither of them wanted this to get messy
"If this works, then you'll have nothing to report besides maybe an angry Electrode. This is an easy choice"

Ann gave a look that said she was less than impressed, crossing her arms, causing bits of dried mud and dirt to flake off of her jacket. Yes, it had been a long day. "...Dan. Why don't you just use a dozen or so electric pokemon? Or fighting pokemon; some of those specialize in pressing moves. I believe there's even a few psychic pokemon that could put a good deal of pressure on your experiment, too."
She sighed, fighting the urge to snipe something over how the impresive Team Rocket couldn't (though more likely, wouldn't) build a generator powerful enough for their needs, instead rubbing her temples. "And you say that as if, on top of a chance of a black out to most of the region, a few dozen intense explosions near the plant is a desirable thing to report." Not that an intense battle was a better option near sensitive equipment, but...
She tensed suddenly as a thought occurred to her. "Don't tell me that's from Chargestone." She'd heard rumors that the new coal mines held highly magnetic properties. A science wiz-kid she was not, but she knew a strong enough magnet could scramble the Power Plant's mainframe.

Dan laughed. Again. He was probably without sleep. Or maybe everything was going exactly as he had planned. Probably both. Or neither. He did answer her questions though.
"I am going to use the generator because I only have one Electric-Type and no one else would agree to letting me do this. We have generators back at the base, but I'd have to strap all of them together to try this. And the black-out would only last a matter of hours and its night-time anyways! Everyone should be asleep anyways!"
He pointed to the coal, which was already radiating a soft blue and a little bit of electricity. It was, in fact, from Chargestone Cave. He'd gotten a Joltik to prove it, but that wasn't the important part. The important part was that he wanted an electrically charged diamond.
"Come on, just let me do this! It'll be fun! I'm making history here! If this works, it could winge us off of these big, unwieldy generators for good! That's not what I'll be using it for, but you could in theory do it!"

Ann's mouth set into a firm line; usually Dan's maniacal-like laugh was contagious, but she wouldn't be swayed so easily this time. "Exactly; the middle of the night. If we're lucky, someone would notice in the early morning and begin restoring power by the afternoon."
She watched warily as her currently excitable friend gestured with the coal, too close to the generators for her liking. It was tempting to simply walk over and snag him by the ear to end this before it got out of hand. "...Dan, please step away from the plant before you shock yourself with thousands of volts. Frankly I don't care what you want this diamond for, but I can't even see the logic of how this plan could work." She motioned lightly back towards the City. "Why don't you tell me your plan over some tea, huh? I'm sure there's other, slightly less dangerous ways to do this... whatever you're trying to do."

Dan could see she was mad at him. Usually, most people being mad at him hardly registered, but she was a special case. He thought and finally decided on a slightly better thought out course of action, stating his terms
"The coal stays here, no one touches it, I choose the place for tea and so help me if I even smell that this is a trap I will rain fire in the streets... Ok, that last bit was probably a lie, or atleast a half-truth"

Ann said without missing a beat, "You may be a friend, Dan, but if you rain fire down on my city I will point-blank beat the crap out of you, size difference or no." Hey, it may be rude, but potential black-outs AND city fires were not her idea of a good start to the week, it didn't matter how many water pokemon trainers the area was known for.
She was relieved that he was at least willing to cooperate; perhaps he hadn't gone off the deep end just yet after all. With a shrug and an attempt to calm down a bit herself, she added, "You want to risk losing your imported coal outside where magnetically drawn, explosive pokemon can find it, be my guest. Or let Tan sit on it and keep watch over it, at least then no one will be able to take it accidentally."

Dan nodded, letting Tan block the box from being touched. The Snorlax would be more than enough to stop a wild Pokemon from touching it. He still had Scizor stand watch as he looked down and muttered those two words you rarely hear from deranged criminals
"I'm sorry. You seem annoyed and I'm sure finding me here did not help your mood at all"

Ann raised an eyebrow in surprise at her friend, finally sighing and offering an attempted smile. She usually tried not to be too curt with the man.
"It didn't, but only because I feel guilty after dealing with you. Honestly, you make that face and..." She trailed off, shaking her head ruefully. She offered her arm to him, trying to lighten the mood, and inclined her head to the field a bit away, where her Salamence was waiting to fly them to Dan's choice of City for their tea. "Come on. Why don't you explain this... odd experiment a little." She'd heard of and seen some odd experiments in her days; using magnets and million volt generators to make rare gems (or potentially sinister, she never knew with him) sounded a little strange.

Dan took the arm and followed, being led to the Salamance. He knew that his own Dragon would be pretty jealous to hear that he had rode someone else's, but it would have to deal with that for the moment. When the time to go arrived, he said that there was a place in Vermilion that was both good and open late, so it would fit the bill. He had his team stand guard to make sure that no one broke in to steal the coal. There was a whole 'nother story behind getting the stupid thing ((Thread Continues Here
