I know that calculating stats is difficult, and everyone seems to be doing it their own way, with mixed results. And on that note, I would like to show you guys the simple, easy way to calculate stats, and make a single, uniformed way for calculating stats.
I know that I've been promoting an off-site stats calculator, but that was for simplicity's sake. From here on in, I'm going to be using the following method in order to calculate stats. And, for simplicity's sake, I'm going to include an excel document that you can use to easily calculate your stats.
PLEASE NOTE: Your pokemon's natures will not give any pluses or minuses to your pokemon's stats, like they would in the games. This is to keep things a little more simple and makes stats easier to calculate. Also, the section regarding Shadow Pokemon shows you what your pokemon's stats would be if it were a Shadow Pokemon.
Calculating HP
First of all, you have to be able to find your pokemon's species' base stats. For that, I recommend going to bulbapedia. Once you have found your pokemon's base stats, the first thing we do is calculate HP. To do so, take your pokemon's level and move the decimal place over to the left one place, aka divide by 10, then multiply that by the base stat of your HP. Any decimals left over should be ignored. Not rounded up, not rounded down, IGNORED. As in, they don't exist. Basically, for you math geeks like me, this is the formula: HP*(lvl/10).
Now, for an example to go with the confusing text. Let's say that you have a pokemon with a base HP stat of 70, and your pokemon is level 45. You would take 45 and move the decimal place, turning it into 4.5. Then you would multiply it by 70, and your pokemon's HP is 315. If your pokemon's level is an even 80, however, it's a lot easier. All you have to do is drop the zero and multiply it by the pokemon's base stat!
Calculating Atk/Def/Sp.Atk/Sp.Def/Spd
These ones are slightly more complicated. It's similar to the HP calculation, but you do even more to the level of your pokemon, to try to keep these stats from going way too high over the HP and risking a constant trend of pokemon being one-hit KO'd. Basically, instead of dividing the level by 10, as we do in the HP calculations, we divide it by twice as much, or 20. So, basically: Stat*(Lvl/20).
And now for an example. Your pokemon is level 75, and you're calculating its attack stat, which has a base of 90. First up, the weird thing with the level. Taking 75 and dividing it by 20, you get 3.75. Then you take 3.75 and multiply it by 90, and you get 337.5. And, because it has a decimal, the decimal is IGNORED, leaving you with 337 attack power.
